Director’s Bio

LESTINE is a former professional international singer and published songwriter who, in 2003, graduated from the CUNY Graduate Center with a baccalaureate degree in Independent Documentary Filmmaking and Creative Writing.  She studied various areas of filmmaking at Hunter College, Brooklyn College, and New York University.

In 2003, Lestine was inducted into the Golden Key International Honor Society. 

Her filmmaking began in 1998 when she teamed up with Macedonian composer/filmmaker, Tony Nikolov, to write and produce her project: Far From Equilibrium, which was to be a metaphysical documentary portrait of the African-American male at the end of the millennium.  The project was shelved.  Her first student film, in which she videotaped and edited, a documentary entitled One Peaceful Morning (12 min.).  The film was shot in those days following September 11, 2001 and screened before an audience at Hunter College’s Annual Film Festival.

Julio and Lupita,(25 min.) another completed documentary film was Lestine’s second venture.  Julio and Lupita is a fascinating portrait of a popular New York City street performer from Colombia, South America, who dances with a life-sized doll.  Lestine wrote, directed, videotaped and edited the film.  The film was screen a Hunter College, but was shelved.  It will soon be released on the Internet Christmas 2014.

Lestine has completed and released a third, much more ambitious project, MASSAGE- An Inside Story, a documentary.  She also graduated from The Swedish Institute College of Health Sciences in New York City, and has been a licensed massage therapist for 20 years while pursuing both her creative and spiritual endeavors.

In 2008 Lestine founded VisionKeeper Films, a company dedicated to using media as a tool to inspire social, philosophical and spiritual dialog.  MASSAGE- An Inside Story is VisionKeeper Films’ first project.  Also, under VisionKeeper Films, Lestine will be producing a feature-length film, UNBOWED,  based on her 2013 novel, UNBOWED, published by Xlibris (an imprint of Penguin Random House)   The 2nd edition of UNBOWED was released in May 2014.   The book has already received numerous positive reviews, and is available on Barnes and Noble, Amazon, Hudson Book Retailers and all online bookstores.
